Passage:

during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Luke 3, NIV

Ponder:

While everybody around us partakes in the spirit of joy and festivity, some of us are stuck in a place that feels dry and empty.

Like John the Baptist, we have been sent to the wilderness.

Secluded. Different. Dry.

But here’s a lesson we can learn:
In the desert, there is wonder.
In dry places, grace comes wilder.

It was when John was in the desert that he received a message from God. And that word propelled him to go into the world to share the good news about the Lord.

See the pattern?

Wilderness before Wonder.
Word before World.

Practice:

Wherever you are this season, take a word of courage from God. Write them down in your journal. And prepare to share it with the world.

Prayer:

Dear God, my heart is empty and ready to be filled with your Wonder.
