What makes a woman beautiful?
Ask a person to mention what makes a woman beautiful and he/she might give you answers ranging from clothing brands, make-up and skincare products, Angelina Jolie and other artists, hairstyles, number of boyfriends, and a lot of TV commercials.
We live in a day and age where we get to be told what makes us beautiful… and sometimes we end the day asking ourselves – are we really beautiful? Are we enough? Are we worth it?
Really, what makes a woman beautiful?
“YOU’RE NOT BEAUTIFUL,” says a Lie.
We always hear this accusation.
- Each time we watch a TV commercial about diet, and we just added a few more pounds for eating more ice cream this week!
- Each time we see that trendy clothing on the mall that we could not afford;
- Pimples on our face because of late night workloads; or,
- when a boyfriend breaks up with us or the man that we like chooses someone else.
These things have a way of communicating against our worth and beauty, sometimes. Would you agree?
Like you, I have questioned myself for a hundred times. I feel like this is a national issue for ladies worthy of attention. I think this is because while men reflect God’s strength, women radiate God’s beauty. So Beauty is really a big deal. Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the confidence that she indeed is. But what is beauty? What makes a woman truly beautiful?
3 beauty tips from the Bible for every woman
- Humility makes you beautiful
1 Peter 3:3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes.
4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands.
Humility makes a woman beautiful – the humility that is shown by trusting God and trusting our husband (or the Male leaders in our lives, if you’re still single).
I’m pretty sure Peter did not say we should not comb our hair or we don’t deserve to treat ourselves with cute dresses, but Peter is clear in saying that these outward things don’t necessarily make us beautiful.
This man of God is like telling us, “Stop getting stressed about how you’ll look like on the outside; there is something in you that makes you beautiful, your humble heart.”
It is not easy to keep a gentle and quiet spirit, hello! We’re ladies; we always have something to say about anything. But God wants us to master the art of trusting Him and accepting the guidance of our leaders. So girl, humility really does look good on you!
- Hard work makes you beautiful
1 Timothy 2:9 And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
Trust me; these words came from a young man named Timothy! This young man tells us that he is more attracted to ladies doing beautiful things for God than for themselves.
Doing nothing, wasting our time and purpose – these do not fit God’s creation.
God has created you with a purpose – you are a part of something big. You have a role in God’s kingdom. You have a job to do. And with your beauty, you can make our world a better place to live in! It isn’t the color on your face or your denim tops that make you beautiful; rather it is the sweat and tears you shed each time you work so hard to share God’s love. It is the bruised knees you’ve got for praying for the church. All the beautiful efforts you do to advance the gospel, it makes you very beautiful!
So take an inventory of your life and ask yourself, are you doing something for God? If yes, girl, it looks good on you!
- Honor makes you beautiful
Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
We can be un-rebellious and we can be busy in the Kingdom but we can still miss this one important thing: honor God thru reverential fear.
Reverential fear is so important because our heart is not capable to manufacture that easily – it comes from moments spent in God’s presence, knowing Him, and adoring Him.
A woman who fears the Lord tells us many things: this woman is careful to live her life that pleases her King, this woman takes God’s Word seriously, and this woman gives extravagant worship to the Lord. Honor looks very good on you!
No matter what the world is trying to tell you, know that you are beautiful! [bctt tweet=”No matter what the world is trying to tell you, know that you are beautiful!” username=”angelittleco”]

We are beautiful, but by the standards of the Bible, not the world’s.
Amen. Our beauty, worth and identity are all established in the Word of God. His truth supercedes all.
True beauty and culture’s definition of beauty are so polar opposite of each other. Thank you reminding us how God looks at beauty and examples from the Bible!
Humble, hardworking, and honorable – those are truly glorifying to God and oh so beautiful!
I love your list of biblical qualities that make women truly beautiful!
Love the Bible beauty tips! Gonna share this with all the ladies in my life!!
Amen! I love this. God defines beauty, not the world.
I love the idea that women radiate God’s beauty. That really touched me.
Amen sister! So often we battle the lies we hear from this world for beauty. Lies that your not pretty enough, not good enough, not strong enough, not skinny enough, etc! Praise the Lord that he is victorious and defeats the enemy every time with the truth! We are beloved, we are holy, we are loved, we are righteous, we are created in his image and beautiful! We are daughters to a throne that will never end!!! Amen
This post was amazing. Thanks for the reminder that it is not our outward appearance but humility and doing the work of God that makes us beautiful 💞
